The first event of All Star weekend is the Celebrity Game which this year takes place in Toronto, Canada. It usually has pretty well known celebrities but it is mostly people who you don’t know that you have to google search once they score. This year has a different set up, it is Team USA versus Team Canada.
Team USA is the early favorite with Kevin Hart as its coach. It seems like Hart is permanently retiring from the celebrity game, rumors are he has still not yet recovered from the spin move Mo’ne Davis put on him last year (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zEAP4gO7SR4 ).
Some highlighted players on Team USA include Jason Sudeikis from the movie “Race”, who might not be good at basketball but has a crazy kick game (http://nk_wp_media.s3.amazonaws.com/files/2014/11/css-spotlight-jason-sudeikis.jpg). Anthony Anderson from ABC’s “Blackish” who played basketball growing up and at one point could dunk as a 5’10 200 pound kid. Nick Cannon is a veteran having played in multiple Celebrity games in the past. He actually doesn’t understand why he keeps getting invited back to play. “I don’t think there’s anybody who’s played in more NBA All-Star games than me,” he said. “Especially no one who is as bad at me in basketball. I scored like two points every year.”
Team Canada is being led by Toronto Icon rapper Drake, who’s assistant coaches include Steve Nash and Jose Bautista. If Bautista’s assistant coaching skills are even close to his bat flip skills, Team Canada is in good hands (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v9KF9et7R8o) Some of the promising players include Stephan James from “Race” who played basketball growing up and he stands at 6’1 which is one of the taller celebrities in the game. A darkhorse MVP candidate is Milos Raonic who is the 11th ranked tennis player in the World. He stands at 6’5 and is the only other professional athlete in the field besides the ex NBA and WNBA players. Expect big numbers from him. Finally the person I am most excited to see is Tracy McGrady. He is only 36 and retired two seasons ago. He is arguably a top 20 scorer all time. This is a prime game for him, play no defense and shoot until he gets tired. My favorite memory of McGrady is him putting up 13 points in 33 seconds against the Spurs in 2004. The only thing holding him back is his choice of suits. He is notorious for wearing hideous and overly baggy suits (https://bossip.files.wordpress.com/2013/11/top11.jpg?w=700). If he can clean up the suit game maybe he can win MVP. Regardless, there is no reason he should drop any less than 20 points.
MVP : Milos Raonic
Top Scorer : Tracy McGrady
Winning Team : Team USA
